Montana State-Northern drops 37-21 game at Southern Oregon

ASHLAND, Ore. — Wyatt Hutchinson threw four touchdown passes as Southern Oregon got 37-21 win over Montana State-Northern in Frontier Conference football action on Saturday.

Northern struck first on a 3-yard Tommy Wilson touchdown run to take a 7-0 lead, but Southern Oregon would score the next 24 points. After a short SOU field goal, Rey Vega gave the Raiders a 10-7 lead with a 24-yard scoring run. Hutchinson hit Austin May and Jordan Suell for 82- and 39-yard touchdowns, respectively.

Wilson threw a 13-yard touchdown in the third to cut SOU’s lead to 24-14, but Hutchinson would throw two more touchdowns in the quarter — an 8-yarder to Parker Randle and a 3-yarder to Vega — to blow the game open. Wilson scored early in the fourth quarter to make the final 37-21 score.

Hutchinson completed 18 of 26 passes for 323 yards and the four TDs. Wilson was 20-of-37 passing for 184 yards, a touchdown and an interception for Northern. He added 45 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.

The win snaps a four-game losing streak for Southern Oregon, which is now 5-4 this season.

MSU-Northern is 1-9 overall and 0-9 in the Frontier Conference.
