HELENA — Carroll College student-athletes capped off another remarkable 2018-19 school year in the classroom. The Fighting Saints combined for a spring GPA of 3.261, an improvement upon fall’s 3.204.

Academic records dating back to 2013-14 show it’s the 12th consecutive semester that Carroll Athletics has held a 3.2 GPA or better.

“The performance in the classroom is outstanding,” Carroll athletic director Charlie Gross said. “To have that level of academic achievement, while balancing the demands of being a collegiate athlete, truly demonstrates Carroll College Fighting Saints are highly motivated. Congratulations to our student-athletes, coaches, and academic support staff for all their hard work.”

Women’s volleyball led the way for Carroll with a 3.484 GPA. Topping the list for the men was the soccer team with a 3.404 GPA. Women’s soccer was the third team to surpass the 3.4 GPA mark with a 3.435.

There were 12 Carroll student-athletes that earned a 4.0 in 2018-19, three of which carry a cumulative 4.0.

The Saints have taken in a nice haul of academic awards over the past school year as well. Saints men’s soccer player Javi Porras was named the United Soccer Coaches’ NAIA National Scholar Player of the Year, highlighting a bevy of Saints that earned national, regional and conference-wide recognition for academic excellence alongside athletics.

In addition to Porras’ top honor, Talya Vaira and Devan Murfitt were named USC NAIA All-American Scholar-Athletes, Drew Melton and Matt Wyman were named academic all-Americans, 47 student-athletes were named NAIA Scholar-Athletes (3.5 or better) while 118 student-athletes were named academic all-conference in either the Frontier or Cascade Collegiate Conference.
