HELENA — Chad Hemsley, Josh Malone and Kelsey Bassett were selected as the Frontier Conference men’s and women’s track and field athletes of the week, the conference announced on Monday.
All three are qualified for the outdoor national meet on May 23.
Hemsley, a freshman from Kalispell, is the outdoor track athlete of the week. At the Trudnowski Open, he won the 400-meter hurdles with an NAIA B-Standard qualifying time of 52.48 seconds.
Malone, a sophomore from Missoula, is the outdoor field athlete of the week. At the Trudnowski Open, in decathlon competition he won the high jump with an NAIA B-Standard jump of 2.02 meters and won the long jump (7.19 meters). His 6,439 points in the decathlon are sixth best in the NAIA.
Bassett, a freshman from Granite Falls, Washington, is the women’s field athlete of the week. At the Trudnowski Open hosted by Carroll, she won the pole vault with an NAIA-A Standard qualifying vault of 3.7 meters. Jazzmin Bryan of Lewis-Clark State is the track athlete of the week after winning the 400-meter with a school record-breaking time of 56.90 seconds at the WSU-Invitational hosted by Washington State University in Pullman, Washington.
The Saints’ last chance to qualify for nationals comes this weekend at the Providence Open and the Tom Gage Classic.
