HELENA — The Carroll College Fighting Saints nearly found the runs they needed to rally and sweep Northwest Christian on Saturday, but instead the Saints settled for a 2-1 series win after falling 4-3 in the series finale at Northwest Park.

The Saints led 1-0 after the fourth inning when Brooke Yarnall and Anna ApRoberts slapped doubles to get the Saints’ offense going.

However, in the fifth inning, Northwest did its damage. The Beacons put four across the plate and surged to a 4-1 lead.

The Saints loaded the bases up in the sixth inning and then brought two home when an error on a fly ball allowed Carroll’s runners to come home with two outs on the table.

The Saints head to Missoula, Montana, for an exhibition against the Montana Grizzlies and then go to Caldwell, Idaho, next weekend to face the Coyotes of College of Idaho.
