DILLON – It was an exciting, action-packed game on Monday night between the seventh-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints and fourth-ranked Montana Western Bulldogs for the right to claim the Frontier Conference women’s basketball championship.
Both squads were locks for the NAIA national tournament next week in Billings, but a tournament championship would be a nice accolade for either school’s resume. Carroll was able to pick up its 10th consecutive win and second consecutive Frontier Conference tournament title with a 54-50 win over the Bulldogs in Dillon.
“You know, it was just a huge game. Western is such a good team, we knew it was going to be a battle. Our big goal was to come out in the first quarter, because we knew they had been so dominating to every team in the first quarter,” said Sayers. “I think when we got that first-quarter lead the kids were feeling confident that we can play with them. And then we just came out and fought, I thought kids made big shots. I thought Britt Johnson made big shots. I thought Hannah Dean made great plays.”
