Carroll College’s Match Burnham, Hannah Dean take Frontier Conference awards

HELENA — In the final week of the Frontier Conference regular season, Carroll College swept the league’s basketball players of the week. Carroll College’s Match Burnham was named the Frontier Conference men’s basketball player of the week for the fifth time this season, while the Saints’ Hannah Dean won the Frontier Conference women’s basketball player of the week for the fourth time this season.

Burnham, a 6-foot-8 senior forward from Spangle, Washington, led the Saints to a win over Rocky Mountain College on Senior Night by scoring 33 points. For the week he averaged 27.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists, while shooting 52 percent from the field, 50 percent from the 3-point line and 88 percent from the foul line. His 33-point game against RMC was his fifth game of 30 or more points this season.

The Saints earned the No. 1 seed in the Frontier Conference playoffs and a bye in the quarterfinals. Carroll will host the lowest remaining seed in the semifinal round on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Dean, a 6-foot-1 senior forward from Gardiner, averaged 20 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game over the course of two wins last week. The Saints defeated Montana Tech in Butte 63-52 and then No. 24 Rocky Mountain College, 55-43, at home as part of Senior Night. Dean led all scorers on Senior Night with 19 points and scored the Saints’ first seven points of the game in the victory.

Carroll finished No. 2 in the regular season and will host Montana Tech in the first round of the Frontier Conference playoffs on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The Saints are 3-0 against the Orediggers this season.
