BUTTE– The Carroll College Fighting Saints are one game behind the Montana Western Bulldogs in the Frontier Conference women’s basketball standings, and in order to keep their chance at claiming the top spot, the Saints had to go through the Montana Tech Orediggers Thursday evening.
The Orediggers gave the Fighting Saints a run for their money, though. En route to a 63-52 loss, the Orediggers led 13-10 after the first quarter. However, a career-high 28 points by Danielle Wagner and another 21 points by Hannah Dean led the Saints over the Orediggers in the penultimate game of the regular season.
The Saints will have little time to worry about how the rest of the field shakes out as they host the Rocky Mountain College Battlin’ Bears on Feb. 23 to close out the regular season.
The Battlin’ Bears will make a stop in Butte to take on the Orediggers on Feb. 22 before they make the trip to Helena to play the Fighting Saints.
