HELENA — The Carroll College Fighting Saints will embark on their second-longest road stretch of the 2018-19 basketball season starting Feb. 1 against the University of Providence Argos.

The last time the Argos and Fighting Saints met in late November, both Carroll squads came away victorious, but the Carroll men’s team is busy preparing for Round 2.

“We’re just looking back at those films and seeing what we can do better,” said Carroll head coach Kurt Paulson. “Providence is dangerous. They can really shoot the ball, and they run some dribble drive, so we got to be ready offensively and look at recently what teams have been doing to take them out of that stuff that’s their offense.”

On the women’s side, both teams have hit road blocks, losing players to injury, but they’ve adapted.

“The first time we played Providence, Jenna Randich was in the lineup. She’s since been out with an injury and they had a lot of freshmen who were playing some big minutes, and those freshmen are now 10-11 more games in and little more experienced,” said head coach Rachelle Sayers. “They’ve had to adjust, as well, just as we did when we lost (Cassidy (Hashley) Kosena). We had to adjust our style a little bit.”

Since the late November matchup, both teams have changed drastically, and Saints point guard Christine Denny is excited about the clean slate.

“We’ve evolved a lot throughout our offense and defense, so offensively, they’re going to have a whole new look at what we’re doing and really not any film to scout us out on,” said Denny. “That’s kind of an exciting look for us.”

The Argos and Saints will square off Feb. 1 with the women’s game starting at 5:30 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m.
