HELENA — Carroll College and Jay Staggs mutually agreed to part ways after recent allegations surfaced against the incoming assistant football coach.

“After learning of recent news regarding Jay Staggs, his employment with the Fighting Saints will not begin,” Carroll College Athletic Director Charlie Gross said. “It’s paramount that we find a quality football coach with outstanding character to work with our student-athletes and Carroll College.”

Staggs spent last season as an assistant football coach at Idaho State in Pocatello. He was selected to begin working with the Saints football program next semester.

Upon learning of the report late Tuesday out of Idaho, Carroll College and Staggs parted ways.

“It’s a very unfortunate situation at Idaho State,” Gross said. “In light of finding this information before Staggs began employment, Carroll will move in another direction.”

A search for another assistant coach will begin immediately.
