HELENA — No. 3 Carroll College is headed north to face the University of Calgary in a doubleheader on Thursday and Friday.
The Saints (11-0, 2-0 Frontier Conference) will have their hands full against a very talented Dinos (14-1) squad.
“This trip to Calgary will be a fantastic test for our group to play against a quality non-conference opponent in back to back games,” Saints coach Kurt Paulson said.
The Dinos recently took down a Lethbridge twice, winning 91-79 and 95-90 in Calgary. The Saints defeated Lethbridge 96-75 in the PE center earlier this season.
“The Dinos have a roster full of experience and size,” Paulson said. “These road games are ideal for us to play to get ready for a Frontier Conference schedule that is extremely challenging”
The Dinos are led by Mambi Diawara, a second team All-Canada player a season ago, who averages 20.2 points, seven boards and 3.7 assists per game. Three other Dinos score double figures: Brett Layton (16.3), David Kapinga (13.2) and Lars Schlueter (12.3).
Carroll enters the game after opening its Frontier Conference season with a pair of wins against Providence and Montana State-Northern.
The Saints lead the NAIA in free-throw percentage (83 percent), are No. 3 in three-point percentage (44.2) and are No. 5 in field-goal percentage (53.2). Three players average nearly 20 points per game for Carroll: MattWyman (20.2), Match Burnham (19.5) and Dane Warp (19.3).
The Saints will see if they can continue their success as they jump into a four-game non-conference schedule against Calgary, University of Alberta-Augustana and Lethbridge.
A season ago, the Saints faced the Dinos twice in the PE Center, claiming both games by scores of 91-82 and 79-78.
Thursday’s game tips off at 5 p.m., while Friday’s is scheduled for 6 p.m.
