Carroll College volleyball goes 2-2 at Aquinas-Cornerstone Classic

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Carroll College’s volleyball team finished the final day of the Aquinas-Cornerstone Classic with a 1-1 record and finished the tournament 2-2 overall on Saturday in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Carroll (18-11) secured a 3-2 win over Northwestern Ohio early Saturday morning to start the day off right, winning 13-25, 25-22, 21-25, 25-18, 15-8.

The Saints won the first match in straight sets after falling behind 2-1. Brielle Bumgarner and Morgan Christy combined for 22 kills in the match.

Senior setter Rayna Pilgeram had 33 assists and junior Ayla Carpenter had 28 digs.

In the Saints’ second match of the day and final of the tournament, they fell 3-1 to Cornerstone.

Cornerstone jumped out to a 2-0 set margin before the Saints dominated Set 3, winning 25-9.

However, that third-set surge was short lived as Cornerstone came back to win 25-14 in the fourth and decisive set.

Bumgarner finished the final match with 15 kills, while Pilgeram added 35 assists and 18 digs.

The Saints resume conference play on Oct. 19 against Rocky Mountain College in Billings.
