CHANDLER, Ariz. — The No. 8 Carroll College Saints turned Menlo over 30 times, but a cold shooting evening led to a 51-47 loss to No. 14 Menlo on Thursday at the Frontier Phoenix Classic.

Hannah Dean led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-19 shooting, playing through some pain against a talented Menlo team.

The Saints shot just 28 percent from the field in the game.

Carroll’s defense gave its offense chances, but the Saints (9-3) shot 16-of-57 from the field.

Carroll held a five-point lead entering the fourth quarter, using a suffocating defense to discombobulate Menlo. But, when Menlo did find a shot, they converted at a high clip, hitting 54 percent of its shots.

Menlo outscored the Saints 15-5 in the final frame to cement the game.

Destinee Bowie led the Oaks with 15 points.

The Saints conclude the classic against No. 12 Our Lady of the Lake (9-2) on Friday at 2 p.m.
