KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – An All-American season and a record-setting career have earned University of Providence women’s basketball senior Stephanie McDonagh a place in history. The program’s career leader in steals will have her No. 23 jersey hung in the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame’s Ring of Honor for the next year by request of the WBHOF.
Every year, the WBHOF selects around 100 high school and collegiate female basketball players from every level of competition to have their jersey displayed in the Ring of Honor. McDonagh will be honored in recognition of her outstanding 2017-18 season.
In her senior year, McDonagh was an NAIA Second Team All-American, a WBCA Honorable Mention All-American, a First Team All-Conference selection, the Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Year, an NAIA-Daktronics All-American, and an Academic All-Conference selection. She finished the season ranked 12th in NAIA Division I in Field Goal Percentage (51.5 percent), 17th in Points per Game (17.5 ppg), and 21st in Steals per Game.
McDonagh holds the program records for steals in a career (273), steals in a season (79), and steals in a game (10). She is also second in program history in career points (1,780), career assists (346), and career rebounds (758).
She will be the second player in program history to be a part of the WBHOF’s Ring of Honor. Erin Legel was the first member of the program in the Ring of Honor after an All-American senior season in 2015-16.
The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame is located in Knoxville, Tennessee and was opened in June of 1999 to celebrate all levels of women’s basketball.
