Rocky Mountain College sets 3 school records at Montana Open

MISSOULA – The Rocky Mountain College track & field team put together another solid performance over the weekend at the Montana Open. The team came through with three school records and another four season-best times.

Isaac Petsch continued his success in the men’s 1,500 Meter Run by winning the race in 3 minutes, 54.67 seconds. The time is the fastest by a Rocky runner in the event this season and fifth fastest in school history. After an altitude adjustment to 3:51.96, Petsch hit the NAIA “A” qualifying standard and moves to a No. 5 national ranking in the event through the weekend’s competitions.

Brenden Leaming set a pair of school records at the meet and was part of a relay team that set another. Leaming’s individual records came with his times of 11.21 seconds in the men’s 100 Meter Dash and 22.80 seconds in the 200 Meter Dash. He then joined Haiden Collins, Christopher Gino Giovagnoli, and Colton Wheeler in the 4×400 Relay that saw them finish in 3:23.68 to establish a new Rocky record.

Giovagnoli finished second in the men’s 800 Meters behind a time of 1:55.01. That personal best mark for Giovagnoli ranks third in school history. When adjusted for altitude, he currently ranks 16th in the NAIA in the event at 1:54.68.

Fred Petsch narrowly missed the NAIA “B” qualifying standard in the 1,500 after finishing fourth with a time of 3:59.55. His personal best time in the event adjusts to 3:56.78 for altitude and currently ranks 11th in the NAIA, just 0.28 seconds off the qualifying mark.

Jackson Duffey recorded the second fastest 5,000 Meters in school history after placing third in the event with a time of 15:16.72. His personal best is the fastest time by a Rocky runner this season. The altitude adjusted time of 15:04.77 currently rank 16th in the NAIA.

Corinne Hamilton finished fifth in the women’s 800 Meters in 2:24.33. That time is a 2018 best by a Rocky runner and a personal best for Hamilton. The time ranks fifth in the Rocky record books and is the fastest by time a Battlin’ Bear in the event since 2015.

Morgan Lucas moved into third in the Rocky record book in the 200 Meter Dash after finishing in 27.93 seconds. A personal best for Lucas, she becomes just the second Rocky runner to break 28 seconds in the event.
