WHITEFISH — Montana Western was the last Frontier Conference team standing this postseason, advancing to the NAIA Division I quarterfinals at the national tournament in Kansas City. Tuesday, the Bulldogs added another accolade to a great season.
Western paced the Frontier Conference men’s academic all-conference team, landing seven athletes on the honor squad. Thirty-four athletes from the league were honored. To be eligible for the honor, athletes must be at least a sophomore in standing, hold a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled in the school the previous two semesters.
Former Choteau standouts Collin Achenbach and Derrek Durocher joined starters Marcus Payne and Kooper Kidgell on the academic all-conference team. Christian Deane, Riley King and Derek Walker were also honored for Western.
Carroll College placed six on the academic team, including seniors Ryan Imhoff and Oliver Carr. Imhoff was named the NAIA Division I men’s player of the year last month. The Fighting Saints fell in the second round of the national tournament, and head coach Carson Cunningham accepted the same position at Division I Incarnate Word shortly after.
Montana Tech and Lewis-Clark State added five athletes to the academic all-conference team, while MSU-Northern and the University of Providence placed four. Rocky Mountain College had three players selected to the team.
