BILLINGS – Rocky Mountain College’s football guys aren’t scheduled to be back on the practice field until late Tuesday afternoon, but that may be a stretch considering Monday’s heavy snowfall.

The Bears’ last spring workout was Thursday as Jason Petrino’s third-year coaching staff pieces together a fresh puzzle.

Petrino says Jacob Bakken will likely start at quarterback this fall for the third straight season. But former Gatorade Player of the Year and Billings Senior standout, Nate Dick, is right there in waiting after transferring from the University of Montana at semester.

Regardless of who draws the nod, Petrino says Rocky’s offense is chasing more balance this spring.

“Early on in the season, really the first three-quarters of the season, we were running the ball a lot,” said Petrino. “Then late in the year we just weren’t able to. Obviously teams took that away. The identity, obviously, has to start with what and who.”

And there’s a particular motto Petrino modeling.

“I stole this from my cousins,” he said, “FTS… Feed the Studs. We’ve got to find out who our best players are then identify them in positions where they can have favorable match-ups against the defense.”

Rocky’s spring game is scheduled for April 21 at Herb Klindt Field.
