Carroll College softball split with Eastern Oregon to drop conference series

LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Carroll College softball team fell to Eastern Oregon 5-4 in Friday’s Cascade Conference game before winning the non-conference series finale 5-0 Friday on the road in La Grande.

In game one, the Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a singled from Brooke Yarnall to right field which scored Allison Bayer and Anna ApRoberts. The lead would hold until the third inning when EOU picked up a run on bases load hit batter. Two batters later, an EOU single scored two more runs to give the Mountaineers a 3-2 lead. An EOU homer ended the rally with another two runs and a 5-2 advantage.

In the top of the fourth, the Saints picked up a run when Brittany Smith doubled to left-center to score Yarnall to cut the deficit to 5-3.

In the fifth, the Saints cut the lead to 5-4 when Allison Williams singled to left field to score Allison Bayer. Carroll couldn’t muster another run and EOU picked up the 5-4 win and the Cascade Conference series 3-2.

Bayer was 2-4 from the plate while Yarnall was 2-3. Brook Brown picked up the loss. She struck out three and allowed four earned runs in 2.2 innings.
