Montana State-Northern finishes season sweep of Rocky Mountain College

HAVRE – The Rocky Mountain College men’s basketball team dropped a 70-66 decision at Montana State-Northern on Saturday night at Armory Gymnasium.

Rocky (17-11, 8-8 Frontier) was hoping to clinch a home game in the quarterfinals of the Frontier Conference Tournament with a win. MSU-Northern (17-11, 7-9) kept their hopes of a home game alive with its third win this season over the Battlin’ Bears.

The Battlin’ Bears shot 46.9 percent from the field and had a 35-28 edge in rebounds in the loss. They totaled 16 assists and only eight turnovers.

Danny Betcher led the team with a career-high 20 points on a 10 of 16 shooting performance. He also grabbed four rebounds and had four assists. Jared Samuelson recorded a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

Northern shot 44.4 percent and finished 10 of 26 from beyond the arc. Adam Huse led the Lights with 17 points.

The Battlin’ Bears will return to the Fortin Education Center on Thursday when they host Frontier leader, and 10th-ranked Montana Western at 7:30 p.m.
