GREAT FALLS, Mont. – There wasn’t much history to suggest this would happen. Heading into the University of Providence’s home game against (8) Lewis-Clark State College, the Argos had yet to beat a ranked team on the year, had lost by 31 points the night before, and hadn’t beaten the Warriors since January of 2015, going 0-10 in that stretch.

That all changed with an outstanding all-around effort, including a perfect 11-11 from the free-throw line in a 70-67 upset of LC State.

The largest lead of the night was a 12-2 advantage held by the Warriors after five minutes of play. UP spend the rest of the half slowly chipping away at that lead and had it down to 2 when LCSC hit a buzzer-beater three to end the half.

UP scored the first 7 points of the first half, to take its first lead of the game with 18 minutes left on the clock. LCSC would hold a trio of brief 1 point leads over the next 18 minutes, but it was the Argo’s game to win the rest of the way.

Defensively, the Argos forced 7 turnovers in the second half, but what sealed the deal was some timely 3-point shooting and a flawless 11-11 effort from the charity stripe that included a pair of clutch free throws each from seniors DuShaun Rice and Sergio Berkley with under 30 seconds left.

Rice led the Argos with 16 points and 4 assists, while Berkley was right behind with 14 points, and 3 assists.

The win brings UP back to 500 on the year and with a record of 10-10 (4-6).
