BUTTE – The Rocky Mountain College men’s basketball team picked up an important road win on Friday night as they defeated Montana Tech, 68-65, in Frontier Conference play.
Rocky (13-7, 5-4 Frontier) has now won four of their past five games played to move above .500 in conference play for the first time this season.
Jared Samuelson scored 25 points with 14 rebounds in Friday to lead the Battlin’ Bears. He went 10 of 18 from the floor with six offensive rebounds while adding one assist and one steal.
The Battlin’ Bears shot 42.9 percent from the floor on Friday and they hit on 6 of 15 from beyond the arc. They scored 37 points in the paint and added nine points from 10 offensive rebounds.
Montana Tech (10-11, 2-8) finished the game shooting 44.1 percent. The Orediggers also struggled from deep, converting 5 of 18 on 3-pointers. Rocky forced the home squad into 16 turnovers for seven points.
Satchel McDonald added nine points for Rocky and Austin Payne chipped in eight off the bench. Latrelle Franklin finished with seven points and five assists.
Montana Tech got 24 points from Dylan Pannabecker and 12 from Carson Dummer.
Rocky now heads for Helena where they will face No. 10 Carroll on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. The two teams are tied for third in the Frontier standings with 5-4 records.
