University of Providence 7th, MSU-Northern 12th in NAIA wrestling polls

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The University of Providence and MSU-Northern wrestling programs each dropped in this week’s NAIA Top 20 Coaches’ Poll. The Argos fell from No. 6 to No. 7, while the Lights dropped from 10th to being tied at No. 12.

No UP or MSUN individuals were top-ranked in this week’s polls.

Eight Argos were ranked in this version of the polls, including Shonn Roberts and Adrian Lyons-Lopez, who were each No. 5 in their respective brackets. Roberts wrestles at 149 pounds, Lyons-Lopez at 174.

Casey Dobson was tied for seventh at 157 pounds, Randy Keesler and Tyler Webley eighth and 10th at 184, while John Hensley was selected No. 9 at 197. Mathew Hopkins and Justin Harbison were each ranked at 285, Hopkins eighth and Harbison 19th.

Four Lights were represented in the coaches’ poll, including No. 4 Matt Weber at 141 pounds and No. 2 Brandon Weber at 157. Brandon Weber has been ranked as high as No. 1 this season and captured the NAIA title last season.

Andrew Bartel was No. 9 at 165 pounds and Steeler French 14th at 184.

The final regular-season NAIA Top 20 Coaches’ Poll will be released on Feb. 7. Grand View (Iowa) was voted No. 1 in the team standings for the 43rd consecutive poll.
