GREAT FALLS, Mont. – After a first half that at times looked lackadaisical for the University of Providence women’s basketball team, the Lady Argos turned it on in the second half, holding Montana Tech to 6-33 shooting on the way to a 71-61 win. UP trailed the Diggers 42-32 at halftime and ended up outscoring Tech by 20 points in the next 20 minutes.
Freshman post Parker Esary nearly had a double-double in the second half alone, scoring 9 of her 15 points and grabbing 12 of her 17 rebounds in the third and fourth quarter. Her 17 rebounds set a new career high and is the highest total by any Lady Argo all year.
Senior Stephanie McDonagh had another stat-stuffing game, leading the team with 25 points, and adding 5 rebounds, 5 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks.
As a team, UP’s 48 percent shooting was its best of the season and a vast majority of those points came in the paint. Of the team’s 71 points, 57 either came from the paint or from the free-throw line.
The win brings the Lady Argo’s record to 12-3 (3-1) on the year.
