HAVRE, Mont. – A career game from senior point guard DeShaun Rice and 14 total steals weren’t enough for the University of Providence men’s basketball team to overcome a significant disadvantage on the glass in a 74-63 loss to Montana State University-Northern.

The Argos led 32-28 at the half off of 17 points from Rice. UP also held the Lights to 35 percent shooting from the field in the period.

Rice would continue to be effective in the second half, scoring 11 more points, but Northern’s offense got hot and made 52 percent in the final 20 minutes, including a staggering 71 percent from three.

That, along with a 38-25 rebounding disparity led to the Light’s 11 point lead.

Rice’s 28 points set a new career high, while senior forward Treyvon Bashir set a career high with 8 steals. Charler Porter and Devin Bray each scored 15 points to lead the Lights.

UP’s record goes to 7-6 (1-2) with the loss. Northern improves to 12-3 (2-1).
