KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Rocky Mountain College and the University of Providence are ranked in the top 25 of the first 2021 NAIA women's volleyball coaches' top 25 poll, which was released Tuesday.
The Battlin' Bears are the highest-ranked Frontier Conference team at No. 18. Rocky, which started the spring season unranked, is 2-0 after earning two four-set wins over Montana Tech last Friday and Saturday. Tech was ranked 17th in the preseason after winning the Frontier Conference regular-season championship last year, but the Orediggers fell out of the national rankings this week. Coaches pegged Tech as the league favorite in their preseason poll.
The Argos, meanwhile, slipped from 20th to 24th in the poll after splitting with Carroll College last week. Providence started the season with a four-set win over the Fighting Saints last Friday and then dropped a five-set match the next day. Providence hosts Rocky for matches this Friday and Saturday.
Carroll is among the teams to receive votes but finish outside the top 25. The Fighting Saints play two matches at Montana Western this weekend.
Jamestown (N.D.) and Park (Mo.) tied for the No. 1 ranking, with Indiana Wesleyan, Westmont (Calif.) and Missouri Baptist slotting in third, fourth and fifth.
