Rocky Mountain College close regular season with win

SALEM, Ore. - Rocky Mountain College ended the 2019 regular season with a 2-1 defeat of the Corban University Warriors Sunday afternoon.

The Battlin' Bears struck first early with senior Mhari Smith finding the back of the net in the match's eighth minute. Lauryn Gamache assisted. The single goal lead held through the first half.

Gamache scored a goal of her own in the 66th minute off an assist from Alexis Robbins. The Battlin' Bears led by two, but only for six minutes.

Chanel Garcia drew Corban within a single goal in the 72nd minute off an assist from Annouscka Kordorm.

Holding on for the next 18 minutes, the Battlin' Bears were able to hold off the Warriors' comeback comeback efforts for the win.

While both teams recorded five shots on goals, the Battlin' Bears held 14-9 overall shot advantage. The Warriors led 2-1 in corner kicks.

Rocky's goalkeeper Maia Wetzel had four saves with one goal allowed while Corban's Elizabeth Brok record three saves with two goals allowed.

The Battlin' Bears finish the season ranked No. 3 in the conference and will advance to the 2019 Cascade Collegiate Conference Championship. The championship tournament will take place on Nov. 12-15 in Springfield, Oregon.
