Providence's Zaccheus Darko-Kelly, Montana Tech's Tavia Rooney win Frontier Conference awards

WHITEFISH – Zaccheus Darko-Kelly of the University of Providence and Tavia Rooney of Montana Tech were named the Frontier Conference men's and women's basketball players of the week, the league announced Monday.

Darko-Kelly, a 6-foot-6 junior forward from Great Falls, helped the Argos to a 2-0 outing at the Bill Himmelberg Memorial Classic, defeating No. 8 Northwest University (Wash.) 112-104 and Dickinson (N.D.) State 98-94. Darko-Kelly averaged 34 points, 5.5 rebounds four assists, two blocks and one steal per game over the weekend. He was 25-of-37 shooting (68 percent) and 7 of 13 from 3-point range.

Providence (5-0) plays Salish Kootenai on Friday and Yellowstone Christian on Saturday. The Argos play Frontier Conference games against Rocky Mountain College and Montana Western next week.

Rooney, a 5-11 freshman from Townsend, set Tech's single-game record with 22 rebounds in the Orediggers' 60-50 win over William Jessup (Calif.). The Orediggers also defeated College of Idaho 64-53 win, extending their win streak to seven games. Rooney averaged 10 points, 14.5 rebounds and three steals per game in the two wins.

Montana Tech (7-1) hosts Yellowstone Christian on Tuesday before playing Frontier Conference games against Carroll College and Lewis-Clark State next week.
