GREAT FALLS — Parker Esary tallied 16 points and 15 rebounds and Emilee Maldonado added 19 points as the University of Providence women's basketball team defeated Montana Tech 59-46 on Saturday.
The Argos (5-4 overall, 5-4 Frontier Conference) led by six points at halftime and extended the lead to double digits in the second half, but Tech was able to cut into the deficit. The Orediggers made it a four-point game with under four minutes left, but that was as close as they got.
Dani Urick led Tech (4-11, 4-11) with eight points.
MEN: PROVIDENCE 99, MONTANA TECH 80
Marcus Stephens poured in 21 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the No. 10 Providence men to a 99-80 win over Montana Tech.
Rashee Stocks scored 20 points and Zaccheus Darko-Kelly added 18 for the Argos, who improve to a Frontier Conference-leading 9-1 record.
Sindou Diallo led the Orediggers (9-8, 9-6) with 16 points. Montana Tech scored 45 bench points and trailed by just six at halftime, but the Orediggers shot just 26% from the 3-point line, compared to UP's 46%.
The two teams will face off again on Sunday.
