DILLON -- The Providence men and Montana Western women earned Frontier Conference basketball wins on Saturday.
Providence men 90, Montana Western 74
Zaccheus Darko-Kelly scored 23 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to help Providence to a 90-74 win at Montana Western on Saturday. Darko-Kelly, the former Bulldog playing in his first season for the Argos, finished the game 9-of-16 shooting and made five 3-pointers in the win.
Rashee Stocks (17), Joel Thabize (16) and Brandon Cotton (10) were also in double figures for Providence, which led 52-31 at halftime after shooting 50 percent (21 of 42) in the first 20 minutes. Western turned the ball over 20 times in the game, whlie Providence had 16 assists and just six turnovers.
James Jones led Western in the loss with 30 points.
Both teams next head to the Cactus Classic in Chandler, Ariz. Providence (8-0 overall, 2-0 Frontier Conference) plays Marian (Ind.) on Dec. 14, and Western (5-5, 0-2) meets Ottawa University (Ariz.) the same day.
Montana Western women 73, Providence 60
The reigning national champion Montana Western women got a 73-60 Frontier Conference win over Providence on Saturday, leading by as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter.
Mesa King led the Bulldogs with 15 points, and Savanna Bignell had 12 and Gracey Meyer added 10. Western had 15 second-chance points, 46 points in the paint and 18 points from the free throw line.
Emily Maldonado and Kenedy Cartwright each had 17 points to lead the Argos.
Western (7-3, 1-1) will play Benedictine University at Mesa on Dec. 18 in Chandler, Ariz. Providence (6-3, 0-2), meanwhile, next plays Bethel University (Tenn.) on Dec. 18 in Phoenix
