KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two University of Providence women's basketball players made program history on Thursday after the NAIA announced its women's basketball all-American selections for the 2020-2021 season, while Carroll College had three players selected and Montana Western added one.

UP guard Emilee Maldonado was named to the first team, while her Argo teammate Parker Esary was selected to the third team. Carroll's Dani Wagner was named to the second team and Western's Brynley Fitzgerald was selected to the third team. Carroll's Christine Denny and Jamie Pickens were honorable mentions. Kiara Burlage, a Columbia Falls native playing at Lewis-Clark State, was also an honorable mention selection.

Maldonado is the first Argo women's basketball player to ever receive first-team all-American honors. The senior guard, who also won the Frontier Conference player of the year award, averaged 16.6 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals a game. She shot 46.1% from the floor, 50.0% from the 3-point line and 91.3% from the free throw line. She finished the season ranked third in the nation in free throw percentage and fourth in the nation in 3-point field goal percentage.

It was Esary's fourth overall all-American selection, which no Argo had accomplished before. Esary was an honorable mention her freshman and sophomore seasons, before being a second-team selection in 2020. Esary averaged 15.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 2.5 blocks per game. Her 61.5% field goal percentage was second-best in the nation.

Wagner, a Havre native, steered the Saints to a 21-3 record and a Frontier Conference championship this season. She averaged 13.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

UMW's Fitzgerald, a junior from Dillon, led the Bulldogs with an average of 16.9 points and 5.7 rebounds per game.

Carroll's Denny followed Wagner with 12.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Pickens, a sophomore from Helena, averaged 13.6 points and 6.6 rebounds per game for the Saints.
