MSU-Northern basketball teams sweep visiting Rocky Mountain College

HAVRE -- The Montana State-Northern men's and women's basketball teams both defeated Rocky Mountain College on Sunday to complete the weekend sweep. The MSU-Northern women earned a 65-56 win, while the MSUN men grabbed a 68-58 win.

MSU-Northern women 65, Rocky Mountain College 56

Tiara Gilham had a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebound to help the MSU-Northern women's basketball team to a 65-56 win over Rocky Mountain College on Sunday at Armory Gymnasium.

Gilham led a balanced offensive attack for the Skylights that saw six players score between 7 and 19 points. Peyton Kehr added 11 points, Mckenzie Gunter and Allix Goldhahn each had 9, Ryley Kehr chipped in 8 and Sydney Hovde finished with 7. Gunter added six assists and Goldhahn added four.

Rocky Mountain College was paced by Kloie Thatcher with a game-high 22 points and Mackenzie Dethman with 17.

MSUN led 18-11 after the first quarter and 30-22 at halftime.

The Skylights (4-9 overall, 3-6 Frontier Conference) are next at Providence on Jan. 30 and 31, while Rocky (1-5, 1-5) will be back home to take on Carroll College the same days.

MSU-Northern men 68, Rocky Mountain College 58

Mascio McCadney, David Harris and Jomel Boyd combined for 54 points to help MSU-Northern to a 68-58 Frontier Conference men's basketball win over Rocky Mountain College at Armory Gymnasium on Sunday.

McCadney scored a game-high 22 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including a 4-for-7 mark from 3-point range. Harris had 19 points and Boyd had 13. Harris added five assists and Boyd added six offensive rebounds. The Lights shot an efficient 28 of 56 from the floor and committed only six turnovers in the win.

Rocky, meanwhile, had 16 turnovers and made 21 of 51 shots in the game. The Battlin' Bears did battle on the glass, though, and out-rebounded the Lights 34-24. They had 15 offensive rebounds, which led to 15 second-chance points. Maxim Stephans had a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds (five offensive) to lead Rocky, which also got 14 points from Sam Vining and 10 from Kelson Eiselein.

MSU-Northern (5-4 overall, 4-4 Frontier Conference) is scheduled to play at Providence on Jan. 30 and 31, while Rocky (1-7, 1-7) is back in Billings to host Carroll College on the same days.
