WHITEFISH -- Montana Western forward Brian Howell was named the Frontier Conference men's basketball player of the week, the league announced on Monday.
Howell, a 6-foot-2 sophomore from Wilmington, N.C., helped the Bulldogs to a pair of wins at the Cactus Classic in Gilbert, Ariz -- a 93-82 win over Ottawa (Ariz.) and a 102-69 victory over Lethbridge. Howell averaged 17 points, eight rebounds, 1.5 assists and one steal per game, knocking down 14 of 22 shots. He also added six free throws on nine attempts.
Howell and the Bulldogs fell 100-89 to No. 8 Marian (Ind.) to conclude the Cactus Classic on Monday. Howell finished with 11 points and four rebounds. Western returns to action Jan. 9 in Frontier Conference play against Lewis-Clark State College.
Rocky's Markaela Francis was named the women's player of the week.
