BUTTE — Late in the third quarter of Saturday's Frontier Conference game in Butte, the 20th-ranked Montana Tech Orediggers held a 16-0 lead over Eastern Oregon.

The Mountaineers knocked down a field goal to make it 16-3 heading into the fourth. But then things got interesting. With about 10 minutes left in the game, Montana Tech's punt was blocked and recovered by EOU's Josh Mendoza, who took it all the way back to the house, making it a 16-10 ballgame with plenty of time left in the game.

But Montana Tech's ground attack proved to be too much, as theyit inched its way down the field. Eventually it would set up freshman Blake Counts barreling through a pack of Orediggers and Mountaineers for his third rushing touchdown of the game.

Up 23-10, the defense took over and sealed the game with a last second interception by Carter Myers to improve the Orediggers to 5-2 overall. They'll hit the road next Saturday for a rematch with Southern Oregon at 2 p.m. MDT.

Eastern Oregon returns to LaGrande for a home contest with 7th-ranked College of Idaho for a 1 p.m. MDT kickoff
