BUTTE -- The Montana Tech men's basketball program has paused all athletic activity for a minimum of two weeks.
The Orediggers have confirmed positive COVID-19 cases on the men's basketball team, the program announced Monday. The two-week pause is mandatory per established protocols as recommended by the CDC and the Silver Bow County Health Department.
The announcement comes less than a week after the Montana Tech women announced the cancellations of scheduled games with Idaho State, Lewis and Clark State and Valley City State. With that announcement on Nov. 25, the Orediggers also postponed their Frontier Conference-opening games with Carroll College.
The Orediggers and Saints were slated to play on Dec. 5 and 6, but now all four of the men's and women's games have been postponed. The Tech men have also postponed games with Montana Western scheduled for Dec. 12 and 13, while the Tech women are expecting to return to action against the Bulldogs on Dec. 12, according to Tech's release.
The Montana Tech men have played two games this season: an 82-59 loss at Dickinson (N.D.) State on Oct. 23 and a 79-70 loss to College of Idaho on Nov. 27. According to their online schedule, the Orediggers have already canceled four games this season and at least five more games will be affected. Tech was scheduled to play at Eastern Washington on Monday, and the Frontier Conference games against Carroll on Dec. 5 and 6 and Montana Western on Dec. 12 and 13 will not be played as originally scheduled.
"Additional details regarding games being canceled or rescheduled will be announced as those decisions are made," according to Tech's media release.
