Montana Tech football opens season following strong offseason workouts

BUTTE -- Football season is now one week old already at Bob Green Field at Montana Tech as the Orediggers finish their first full week of fall camp.

Montana Tech finished with an admittedly disappointing 5-5 record last season after losing four of its final six games in 2018. The Orediggers will rely on an experienced offensive line and defensive secondary to lead the charge, one that began almost immediately after last season ended.

“We’re just really priding ourselves on pushing each other in every aspect. Starting this winter after that season, as older guys, we all got together and (last season) wasn’t good enough for us, so we all pushed ourselves in winter workouts," said senior safety Tucker Rauthe. "It was probably one of the best winter workouts we’ve had. We pushed ourselves in there. Then spring ball came around, and spring ball is that, get back on the field and get back into it, let some of the young guys get their chances, and then this summer we really got after it. This is probably one of the best summers I’ve been a part of.”

Rauthe, the former Kalispell Glacier athlete, leads a secondary with high expectations this fall. Stay tuned to MTN Sports and MontanaSports.com this week for more from Rauthe and junior Justin May, as Tech gets set to open the season Sept. 7 against College of Idaho.
