Late goal helps Rocky Mountain College sweep Providence

GREAT FALLS - With less than two minutes left in the match, Rocky Mountain College's Nolan Sherwood kicked in the game-winning goal to push the Battlin' Bears past the University of Providence Argos 2-1 Friday afternoon.

In the 31st minute. Swenson dribbled through six Argos and booted the ball past Providence's (8-5-1, 5-5-0 CCC) Hernan Perez for the match's first goal.

Rocky (10-3-0, 9-1-0 CCC) led 1-0 until late in the match when the Argos' Alain Murhula scored the equalizing goal in the 79th minute.

Tied at 1-1 with less than two minutes left before overtime, Nolan Sherwood took an assist from Sam Davidson and powered in the game-winning goal past Perez. The goal counted as Sherwood's 13th goal of the season which currently ranks as most in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.

In the women's opener, Rocky's Mhari Smith scored two goals to give the Bears a 3-0 shutout win.

Smith put the Battlin' Bears (9-3-1, 6-2-1 CCC) on the board in the eighth minute of play. The senior booted a ball over the outstretched hands of Providence's (5-10, 4-7 CCC) Jenna Evertz and into the back of the net from more than 20 yards out.

In the 52nd minute, Lauryn Gamache scored her 10th goal of the season to make it 2-0. Smith scored the match's final goal in the 60th minute off an assist from Alyssa Schneider. Maia Wetzel recorded her eighth shutout of the season with four saved.

NEXT: Rocky Mountain College will travel to Carroll College for a doubleheader on Sunday.
