BUTTE — Day 1 of the Big Sky Volleyball Challenge featured matchups with two Frontier Conference schools.
The first was host team Montana Tech against Northwest University. The Orediggers took home the first set 25-22. The Eagles rallied back to win the second and third sets 25-23 and 25-21. But Montana Tech dominated the fourth set 25-12 to force a fifth and deciding set. There, the Diggers would seal it up with a 15-7 set win to take home the match by a final of 3-2.
The second and final game of the night pitted Montana Western against Valley City State University.
The Bulldogs were looking for their first win of the season which would double as Katie Lovett's first-ever head coaching win. The Bulldogs came through in straight sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-14) to pick up the first win in the Katie Lovett era.
Montana Tech will play again Friday at 11 a.m against Bethel and Montana Western will play at 11 a.m, as well against Olivet Nazarene.
