HELENA -- Carroll College volleyball's first matchup might not be until Aug. 20, but the team is hard at work preparing for the 2019 season.
The Fighting Saints had three seniors return, but seven freshmen come in for this season. With a ratio like that, it may seem like there's a lot of mentoring to do, but according to senior middle hitter Jenna Starke, the freshmen are fitting in well and bringing a youthful vibe to the squad.
"There's a couple that are definitely stepping up more on the court. We had Kylie (Kackman) step in on the first day as our only setter and she was doing great. Katherine McEuen is just a great hitter. We have one new middle (hitter) joining us in the middle in Katie Rhodes," said Starke. "It's nice to have just a different perspective on the game and to be able to teach them about using your wrist or different skill that coach Moe (Boyle) has taught me, but to be able to pass that on has been fun."
Carroll College's first volleyball match of the season will come on Aug. 20 when they take on the Montana State Bobcats in Bozeman.
