BUTTE — In the early stages of the brand-new Montana Tech cross country program, former Butte High Bulldog Jake Vetter became the first male signee Thursday afternoon.
Vetter, who is currently a freshman at Tech, becomes a central part to the growth of the Oredigger cross country program, and the Mining City community will still be able to cheer on one of its own during the inaugural season.
“It was just anywhere I could explore my options and have a chance to run, and for it to be at Tech, it’s amazing," said Vetter. "I get to stay in Butte where all my family is and this community, which is second to none in supporting all their athletes that they have.”
“He’s a great person to start the program with. I think once we get his name out there that we have someone coming ... we already have a lot of commitment and I think a lot of people are going to want to be a part of that because they want to be legitimate," said first-year Oredigger head coach Zach Kughn.
