Five Rocky Mountain College student-athletes win Frontier Conference honors

WHITEFISH -- Five Rocky Mountain College student-athletes won Frontier Conference athlete of the week honors, the league announced on Monday.

The Battlin' Bears swept the weekly golf awards, with Hailey Derrickson winning the women's golfer of the week honor and Nolan Burzminksi earning the men's honor.

Derrickson, a freshman from Austin, Texas, finished 13th out of 62 golfers at the Battle at Old Works in Anaconda, shooting 73-78-76 in a tournament largely made up of NCAA Division I teams. Burzminksi, a freshman from Medicine Hat, Alberta, finished 15th out of 56 golfers at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational at Le Mars, Iowa. Burzminksi shot 71-78-69 at the tournament featuring 11 NAIA schools, including eight schools ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA top 25.

Rocky also swept the cross country honors, with Ruth Chepsat, a junior from Eldoret, Kenya, winning the women's cross country runner of the week and Jackson Duffey, a junior from Ronan, claiming the men's award.

Competing at the Montana State Cross Country Invitational in Bozeman, a meet with mostly NCAA Division I competitors, Chepsat finished 24th out of 61 runners in the 5K with a time of 18:22 and Duffey finished 20th out of 64 runners in the 8K with a time of 26.02

Rocky's Ayla Embry was also honored on Monday, receiving the Frontier's volleyball defender of the week award. The 5-foot-4 freshman libero from Bozeman averaged 6.67 digs per set as Rocky opened the conference portion of the season with two home wins.
