GREAT FALLS — The Frontier Conference openers between the MSU-Northern and Rocky Mountain College men's and women's basketball teams have been postponed due to COVID-19, each school confirmed with MTN Sports on Thursday.

The four games were set to be played in doubleheader fashion on Dec. 5 and 6 at Rocky Mountain. The MSU-Northern women were also scheduled to play Lewis-Clark State on Dec. 11 and 12, but those games have also been postponed, per the Skylights' website.

The postponement, along with the rescheduling of Montana Tech's games with Carroll College, means the entire opening weekend of Frontier basketball has been delayed.

According to a Rocky Mountain College press release from Thursday, the Battlin' Bears also postponed games against Carroll that were scheduled for Dec. 11 and 12.

The press release referenced the Frontier Conference Council of President's COVID-19 plan, stating "when MSU-Northern and Carroll College applied the COP’s 'return to play standards' to their student athletes, they found they were unable to play."

As of Thursday, the next Frontier game will be Saturday, Dec. 12 when the Montana Tech women visit Montana Western. The Tech men have halted activity until at least Dec. 13.
