LEWISTON, Idaho -- Dani Wagner scored a late bucket to help No. 6-ranked Carroll College eke out a 65-60 women's basketball win over Lewis-Clark State on Saturday.
The Saints, who defeated Lewis-Clark 99-48 earlier this season, trailed 60-59 with less than 30 seconds remaining on Saturday. Wagner made her way into the key, up-faked, pivoted and finished the up-and-under move to give Carroll a 61-60 lead. The Saints forced a Warriors turnover on the next possession, Wagner sank two free throws and Sierra Swannack added two more for the five-point win.
Wagner, a senior from Havre, finished with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds, while Christine Denny added 15 points for Carroll (7-0)
Lewis-Clark State (3-2) received a team-high 17 points from Jansen Edmiston and another 14 from Columbia Falls native Kiara Burlage, who was the Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball player of the week last week after a record-setting performance against Montana State-Northern.
The Warriors led 17-15 after the first quarter and 34-32 at halftime, but Carroll won both the third and fourth quarters, outscoring Lewis-Clark 15-12 and 18-14, respectively.
The teams will meet again on Sunday with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
