HELENA -- Carroll College has officially canceled its Saints Athletic Association Auction, director of athletics Charlie Gross announced Monday.
The annual SAA Auction plays an important role in funding student-athlete scholarships. This year's auction was set to be the 38th annual and, until Monday, has been indefinitely postponed, but the coronavirus pandemic ultimately canceled the event.
"Unfortunately, due to the restrictions placed upon gatherings as a result of COVID-19 and the subsequent economic impact it has had, we feel uncomfortable putting our many generous friends in a difficult situation," Gross said. "Thinking about the future, the SAA Board has started its planning for next year, which begins with our SAA membership drive in mid-June."
Gross said the SAA's other 2020-21 events remain on the schedule. The Boat Poker Run, which will help support the Carroll College weight room, is Aug. 22; the SAA Golf Tournament is Sept. 25; the SAA Shindig is Jan. 11, 2021; and the 2021 SAA Auction is scheduled for April 9, 2021.
Gross also added that "the fall sports schedule still has an element of uncertainty but clarity should be provided in the next few weeks."
Carroll's fall sports programs are scheduled to start their seasons in August or September.
