Carroll College, Montana Tech split doubleheader

BUTTE -- The Carroll College women and Montana Tech men each claimed wins Tuesday night in a Frontier Conference basketball doubleheader in Butte. The No. 16 Carroll women pulled away in the fourth quarter for a 71-52 win over the Orediggers, while the Tech men won the second half en route to a 74-66 upset win over No. 17 Carroll.

Carroll College women 71, Montana Tech 52

The No. 16-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints used a 26-point fourth quarter to put away the Montana Tech Orediggers and earn a regular-season sweep on Tuesday, winning 71-52.

The Saints (18-9 overall, 10-5 Frontier Conference) opened the quarter on an 8-0 run and kept pushing the lead from there.

Maddie Geritz scored a career-high 21 points, knocking down 9 of 13 shots. Dani Wagner added in 18 points, while Kamden Hilborn and Christine Denny each chipped in 10.

Carroll outscored the Orediggers (14-13, 4-11) in every quarter, save the third when the teams battled evenly 14-14.

Carroll shot 45 percent from the field and 40 percent from the 3-point line. The Saints also held the Orediggers to a 9.1 percent mark from deep.

Next up, the Saints take on Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston, Idaho, on Saturday. The Saints are 1-1 against the Warriors this season.

Montana Tech men 74, Carroll College 66

The No. 17-ranked Carroll College Fighting Saints men’s basketball team fell 74-66 to Montana Tech on Tuesday in Butte.

Jovan Sljivancanin led the Saints (19-8 overall, 10-5 Frontier Conference) with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Gaven Ramirez added a career-high 13 points, while Dennis Flowers III and Shamrock Campbell each scored 12.

The Orediggers were led by a game-high 24 points from Sindou Diallo.

The Saints and Orediggers battled evenly in the first half, as the Saints closed the half with a buzzer-beating 3 from Shamrock Campbell to knot the game at 34. Tech won the second, outscoring the Saints 40-32.

The Fighting Saints take on No. 5 Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday in Lewiston. The Saints and Warriors are tied in their season series 1-1.
