HELENA — After routing the Montana Western bulldogs on Saturday and Sunday by scores of 81-73 and 78-61, the Carroll College men’s basketball team is sitting even with its Frontier Conference record at 4-4 to this point (7-5 overall).
Following Saturday’s win, Fighting Saints head coach Kurt Paulson said the way this season has started has been a grind.
“A lot of road games to start the season, nine of 10 to start," said Paulson. "We just kept telling the kids we're thankful to be playing, so keep coming to practice and giving it your all. We're just happy to be playing games because a lot of people aren't, and we tried to sell them on that for two months. And finally, we got some home games.”
Last year, the Fighting Saints had a corps of players that saw substantial minutes, but this year Paulson is having to rotate players in and out because of the back-to-back nature this season is throwing at him.
“All these back-to-back games are tough," said Paulson. "I think you got to play some guys and get some quick rests if you can, and it's more fun for the kids. I wish I could play them all, but unfortunately that's not the case. And the guys who did get in, you know, gave us some great minutes.”
The Fighting Saints will be back in action this Saturday when they take on the Montana Tech Orediggers at 7 p.m.
