HELENA — After taking a one-point lead midway through the second half on an Ifeanyi Okeke dunk, the Fighting Saints scored just eight points across the final seven minutes of the game to fall to the University of Providence Argos, 80-69.
The game with an offensive onslaught by both teams in the first 5 minutes of the game that saw the Saints on top, 20-13.
From there, the Argos settled in and brought the score back in their favor going on a 26-8 run through nearly the rest of the first half, thanks in part to 11 points off of turnovers and 10 first-half points by Zaccheus Darko-Kelly.
The Fighting Saints were able to swing the momentum back in their favor to end the half, trimming an 11-point lead to just three as the teams broke for the locker rooms at the end of the first half with the score sitting at 46-43.
Dennis Flowers III led Carroll with 20 points and 4 rebounds, Jovan Sljivancanin contributed 15 points and 15 rebounds.
The second half played out steadily with neither team truly able to get the upper hand. With just under eight minutes to go in the game, it seemed like Carroll took hold of the momentum of the game with that Okeke dunk, but couldn't get shots to fall.
Marcus Stephens rounded out the final few minutes of the game with 8 of his game-high 20 points, Darko-Kelly also put up 20 points as well.
The University of Providence Argos will look to complete the season sweep of the Carroll College Fighting Saints when the two meet for the final time of this regular season on Sunday at 2 p.m.
