Carroll College excited with Frontier Conference schedule finalization

HELENA -- After days of deliberation, the Frontier Conference announced Monday that its fall sports schedules have been finalized. At Carroll College, head volleyball coach Moe Boyle was thrilled to see that there was even a chance to play this fall.

“To be in the situation that we're in right now and the circumstances of the world, it's exciting to have an opportunity going forward to even have the chance to play this fall,” said Boyle.

Though there will be sports this coming fall, there will be scheduling changes. Volleyball will lose six dates, dropping from 28 to 22 matches, and football will only be playing eight games as opposed to the normal 10. But, according to Fighting Saints football coach Troy Purcell, he doesn’t foresee that changing the way they look at each game.

“We'll just take one game at a time. We have College of Idaho at home. Our first game here is a conference game and so that's what we are, as coaches we're preparing for,” said Purcell

Another difference will be in preparation for the season. Student-athletes can’t report for preseason training until Aug. 15, with fall sports seasons starting on Sept. 5. Football is the lone exception, starting a week later on Sept. 12.

Boyle said that even though her team won’t get the opportunity to practice before school starts up, it might help in terms of focus knowing they get a shorter amount of time to practice.

"Having not had practice before school starts, I think is going to add a new difficulty to it, because you're not going to be together for sometimes four-to-six hours a day," said Boyle "We're only going to have a few hours each day with school starting so early, but that might be a blessing."

As of right now, all fall sports playoffs are scheduled to take place as planned.
