Tres Tinkle named to Julius Erving Award Watch List

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Tres Tinkle, the former Missoula Hellgate High School basketball star now entering his senior season at Oregon State, was named the to Julius Erving Award Watch List, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Wednesday.

The Julius Erving Award is annually presented to the small forward of the year in Division I men's college basketball. Twenty student-athletes were revealed as candidates on Wednesday.

Tinkle was a two-time Montana Gatorade player of the year before heading to Oregon State, where he plays for his father, Wayne. Wayne Tinkle, who had a successful tenure as the head coach at the University of Montana, recently signed a contract extension with the Beavers.

Tres Tinkle is returning to OSU after testing the NBA Draft waters in the spring. He's coming off a junior season in which he earned first-team all-Pac-12 Conference honors after averaging 20.8 points, 8.1 rebounds, 3.8 assists, 1.7 steals and .5 blocked shots per game. Tinkle was one a top 10 finalist for the Julius Erving Award last season.

His 20.8 points per game ranked second in the Pac-12 last season and are the ninth-best single-season average in Oregon State history.

The Beavers start the 2019-20 campaign with an exhibition game against Carroll College on Oct. 23.
