INDIANAPOLIS — One Montanan moves on.
Billings Skyview product Rayquan Evans will see the Round of 32 after No. 4 Florida State beat No. 13 UNC Greensboro 64-54 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
It was Florida State's sixth consecutive opening-round win in the tournament. The Seminoles led 29-26 at halftime. UNCG briefly tied the game, but FSU then used an 11-0 run early in the second half to separate. However, the Spartans closed the deficit back to one multiple times late in the half before FSU pulled away for good.
Evans finished with one point and two assists for the Seminoles. Florida State will play No. 5 Colorado in the second round. The Buffaloes made 16 3-pointers in an opening-round 96-73 win over No. 12 Georgetown.
Three players with Montana upbringings entered the tournament.
Missoula Hellgate graduate Rollie Worster was eliminated on Friday when his No. 11 Utah State team fell to No. 6 Texas Tech. Jaden Stanley-Williams, who played two years at Great Falls High and grew up on the Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation, also saw his season come to an end on Friday when No. 14 Morehead State lost to No. 3 West Virginia.
