Eastern Oregon scored a pair of touchdowns in the final 4:11 to force overtime against Rocky Mountain College on Saturday at Herb Klindt Field. A Kai Quinn 6-yard touchdown scamper served as the walk-off for the Mountaineers.
Eastern Oregon built a 16-9 lead at halftime on the back of a Quinn touchdown pass to Tyler Zinke and a Quinn touchdown run. Rocky, though, scored 21 unanswered points in the second half to take a 30-16 lead with 8:50 to play.
Drew Korf got Rocky on the board with a 52-yard touchdown pass to Donavan Sellgren who was untouched up the seam. Korf and Sellgren hooked up from 7 yards out on the next drive to give the Battlin' Bears a 23-16 lead with 3:15 to play in the third quarter.
Rocky added to its lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter, as Colton Williams plunged into the end zone from 7 yards out to give the Bears that 30-16 advantage. But Quinn got it cooking late.
Quinn found Zinke from 21 yards out with 4:11 to play, then hit Zinke from 6 yards out with 1:21 to go to tie the game up. Rocky attempted a field goal as time expired, but Riley Garrett's 41-yard attempt sailed wide left.
Garrett would punch his fourth field goal of the game through the uprights in the overtime period, but Eastern delivered the knockout punch to keep Rocky from the win column.
Rocky falls to 0-3 on the year and will finish up the campaign next weekend at MSU-Northern. Eastern Oregon is 2-0 and will host College of Idaho April 3.
