BURNABY, Canada. – The Montana State University Billings volleyball team was swept by Simon Fraser University 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-14) Friday night in Canada.
SFU (14-7, 10-3, 7-5 Great Northwest Athletic Conference) was dominate from the start as the Yellowjackets (7-16, 4-9 GNAC) could not get their offense going and struggled to really get in the match. SFU bested MSUB with a .318 hitting percentage to go with 45 kills versus MSUB’s measly .093 hitting percentage and 29 kills.
The Clan were paced by Kalyn Hartman who finished with a .500 hitting percentage and 13 kills. Kristen Pinkey had 12 kills while carrying a .167 hitting percentage. Julia Tays produced a match high 32 assists and Biance Te recorded 15 digs.
Joelle Mahowald lead MSUB with a .263 hitting percentage and seven kills. Maddi Vigil and Bayli Monck tied for the team lead with 10 digs as MSUB’s defense struggle to keep pace with the SFU attack. Hannah Hasbarger finished with 22 assists and seven digs.
MSUB’s best set was the first one as they hit a combined .242 with 12 kills. The ‘Jackets would only lead once at 4-3 after a kill from Skylar Reed. MSUB kept pace with SFU for most of the way, tying the set at 15-15 on another kill from Reed who finished the match with six total. A 5-0 run by SFU proved to be the difference as they went on to win the first set 25-19 and effectively the match 3-0.
